How to Create Antique Kitchen Cabinets
Antique and rustic style is getting popular for the past decade. People tend to choose to have furniture that looks old and artistic. If you have your kitchen cabinets torn and worn out, you can refinish them to look antique yet glazing. Antique Kitchen Cabinet is easy to make. As distressing and staining them does not take much time. They could highlight your kitchen and become the focal point of the house.
You can start your Kitchen Cabinets project by preparing the cabinets. Take off the cabinet from the wall and place on a location to work on. You will refinish the cabinets for the antiquing process. Grab screwdriver to remove the knobs. Use household cleaner to clean the cabinets. There are two way to antique your cabinets depending on the condition of the finish. If the cabinets are stained, you could re-stain them. If they are painted, you could distress them. Use stain to glaze the kitchen cabinets. Sand them with 80 or 100 sandpaper and wipe them until they are dry. You can now start the stain process, you are better to choose dark stain to antique the cabinets. Use medium paintbrush and apply the stain lightly. Brush according to the wood grain and apply thinly at a time. Use sponge or paper towel to wipe the stain off to get the effect of antique. Coat for at least twice on area that receive the most tear and wear. Concentrate around the edge and the knobs. You will need to wait 8 hours for the stain to dry.
Distressing The Paint And Gloss Method
You will need to distress the surface of the painted cabinets to obtain the Kitchen Cabinet effect of naturally worn look by sanding around the knob of the cabinets with 80 or 100 sandpaper. Show some of the wood beneath the paint to glaze the cabinet by rubbing sandpaper on the edges and the middle of the cabinets. Take a tack cloth and wipe dry the sandpaper dust. Coat the cabinet with clear gloss using paper towel or medium brush. This will help to protect the wood from moisture. Wait for at least 8 hours until the gloss finish is completely dry and then you can attach the knob back on the cabinet. You can get rid the old know and replace with the new one that suit with the look of your antique cabinets.
